$650,000 Settlement for Illinois Rear End Auto Accident
Auto Accident on Illinois Route 163
This case was filed in St. Clair County Circuit Court. Plaintiff was traveling down Illinois Route 163 when he was rear-ended by Defendant’s Ford Expedition. The crash pushed Plaintiff’s vehicle into oncoming traffic, causing a third vehicle to be involved.
Plaintiff pulled to the side of the road after the accident. The defendant fled the scene and was later pulled over by police and arrested at gunpoint.
Plaintiff suffered injuries to his back which he treated conservatively for several months. He ultimately had disc replacement surgery.
During the Defendant’s deposition, he admitted to leaving the scene after the crash. As a result, Plaintiff filed a motion to allow a claim for punitive damages, citing Peterson v. Henning. After winning the punitive damage motion, the case settled for $650,000.
